A beautiful Antique Hungarian Pleated Folk Skirt. A wonderful Indigo Colour with floral printed pattern.
This is a great example of the traditional Hungarian ‘Kékfestés’ Indigo Dye Resist process.
The Skirt is an Apron Style with Pleated Section to the front only.
I believe the fabric is linen, which then after printing has a glossy coated quality.
I estimate this piece’s age to be between 1900- 1920’s based on other styles from the same region. It is sturdy despite its age and in excellent wearable condition.
Would fit sizes UK8 - UK12 as waistband is adjustable
Please Note, this garment has no functioning closure. The Skirt is pinned closed to illustrate wear. A button and loop / ribbons could be sewn on for easier closure.
Some pleats from the front section have unpleated over time.
